基辛格七訪北京

一九七四年十一月基辛格博士七訪北京。

喬冠華在歡迎基辛格的宴會席上，就曾這樣說：

“三年多來，基辛格博士曾六次遠涉重洋，來我國訪問。這一次又來到北京，使我們雙方有機會繼續(xù)就中美關系正?；约半p方共同關心的國際問題交換意見，對此我們感到高興。”

這幾句話的英譯，是這樣的：

In the last three years or more, Dr. Kissinger has come a long way across the ocean to visit our country on six occassions. We are glad he has now come to Peking again, providing our two sides with an opportunity to continue the exchange of views on the normalization of Sino-american relations and on international issue of common iterest.

喬冠華又說：

“中美兩國人民一向是友好的。在隔絕了二十多年之后，兩國之間來往的大門打開了，兩國人民的友好關系得到了發(fā)展。在這里，我們應當提起尼克松先生在這方面所起的開拓作用。同時，我也欣賞地注意到福特總統要繼續(xù)執(zhí)行上海公報的聲明?！?/p>

“中美兩國社會制度不同，在一系列原則問題上存在著分歧，但這并不妨礙在某些問題上找到共同點。我們雙方本著坦率精神交換意見，增進了解，總是有益的?？偟膩碚f，這幾年中美關系是向前發(fā)展的。我們相信，國務卿先生這次訪問，將為上海公報所確定的各項原則得到進一步貫徹，做出貢獻?！?/p>

“高興”，英譯是“glad”。

“欣賞”，英譯是“aapreciate”。

“同時，我們也欣賞地注意到福特總統繼續(xù)執(zhí)行上海公報的聲明”，整句話的英譯是：

And we also note with appreciation President Ford's statement that he would continue to implement the Shanghai Communique.

“開拓作用”，英譯是“pioneering role”。

基辛格在祝酒時也提到“上海公報”，他是這樣說的：

President Ford met with Chief of the Chinese Liaison Office in the U.S.A. on the first day he was in office and the President reaffirmed that "We would continue to pursue the principles of the Shanghai Communique and that we would continue to follow the goal of normalization of relations with the People's Republic of China."

這幾句話，中譯如下：

福特總統在辦公的第一天就會見了黃鎮(zhèn)主任，重申了“我們將繼續(xù)遵循上海公報的原則，并繼續(xù)追求同中華人民共和國關系正常化的目標”。

“Pursue”譯作“追求”。
